20 Percent

Dirty Politics

My take on Nicky Hager's book.

I have not read 'Dirty Politics' and I don't intend on doing so, however I do have an opinion on the controversy surrounding said book.

Launched this month the focus of the media has gone to researching the revelations and accusations within it, meaning that there has been distraction from some of the issues that I personally believe to be important.

On the 4th of August, both Greens and Labour launched their disability policy, however there was minimal focus on this from the media. Neither One nor Three news made any reference to it on their 6pm bulletin, regardless of using footage from the Green Party's Policy Launch.

With over 20percent of the population directly affected by these policies, not to mention the families, carers and education providers, I think it was utterly disappointing.

I understand that the left wing supporters may think this book is worth its weight in gold, and that the media are stoked to have something to talk about, but let's not forget the real issue this election which is voter participation.

If we want everyone out on September 20th, make sure we are informing them about the issues the will affect them when the 51st Parliament takes power later on this year.
