20 Percent

20percent Was Stood Up

Posted on July 26, 2014

As part of this campaign I am contacting many of the major players, the parties that have a high chance of representing us after September 20th. If they manage to pull of a successful deal with John Key, the Conservative Party may be sitting in the Beehive post election. But my communication with them around their stance and policies on Disability Issues has been somewhat concerning.

I first emailed the party  early April and I had no response, so another email was sent to them on the 25th of April and still the awkward silence remained. Now don't get me wrong, I am not desperate for emails, however I was puzzled as I could not find anything regarding disabilities and the Conservative Party.

So after two phone calls and two more emails, I finally got a response from their policy adviser who appeared to be happy to meet with me. However the last email was him telling me he would confirm a time closer to the planned date. This never happened.

Yes, I understand that parties are incredibly busy at the moment, but having nothing on disability issues and not replying to inquires about these issues makes it seem, they are not prepared to reach out to over 20percent of New Zealanders that identify with having a disability.
